I thought Dickens did a great job characterizing Scrooge, especially in early parts of the novel. I hadn't expected Scrooge to be so sympathetic, but he was a great villain turned protagonist. Scrooge's attitudes and motivations surprised me by being fairly modern. I loved the overall humor, which although written long ago in a very different world, still worked today. A true classic.
